My Little Balcony Rose Garden
Welcome to my little balcony rose garden! It's probably your first time seeing a blogger introducing all the plants he has, especially for how many rose varieties he has. If you are interested in seeing how beautiful they are, please continue to read, thank you!
I have been really into gardening since I was 13 years old. This year is my 10th anniversary of gardening, so I decided to write this article about my favorite plant of all time rose to be our topic today. I have my own 16 roses on my little balcony. Some are still a baby, some are big climbing roses, and some are tree roses. Rose is a type of plant living in temperate zones like Europe, the USA, Canada, etc. By that means the weather is more chill, and the summer won't be too hot compared to the tropical zones; also, most of the rose is blooming around spring to fall. In Taiwan, growing a rose needs more effectively than usual because it is hot as hell! However, if you are taking good care, you can still have a blooming wall and get the same results as the temperate zone.
Okay! Let me start to introduce all my beautiful friends to you guys!
English Rose (ER)
If you are in love with the rose, you probably heard about David Austin, a famous and most prominent rose breeder in the world. Most of the modern roses we see nowadays, mostly English rose was all created by him. The David Austin Roses's rose is in the name of strong scents, easy-care, and the most important lots of flowers when the season arrives. I love how many excellent features the English rose have. If you are a beginner, I strongly recommend that you go with English rose first and trust me, you would notice how easy to care and beautiful they are!
Abraham Darby
My most favorite roses since the beginning. I love how effortless care and how beautiful it is. The strong fruit scents and the size of the flower got my heart. Abraham Darby is a shrub/climber. If you can drag its stem to the trellis or obelisks, it can give you the most beautiful effects you to see. It is probably the most know English rose in Taiwan. Highly recommend it for beginners!
Spirit of Freedom
Just like its name, this rose is wild. It doesn't need a lot of care to be able to grow like crazy. A big climber means it is not for the balcony. Also, the flower won't come if the stems are old enough. Many reports say that you need to grow it for at least one year to see the first blooming flower, but after that, it's a floribunda. The scent is strong as well, and you would never regret having it!
The Wedgwood Rose
I have a tough time with this rose! It doesn't mean it is hard to care, but I have bad luck with it! A shrub/climber, the stem is soft, so the flower would face down when it blooms! I love how its petal is thin and transparent; it brings this flower to quality looks. I would give you an update in the future because it is starting to sprout by the time I wrote this article!
Keira
One of the favorite cut flowers from David Austin rose. Balcony friendly, and it’s a floribunda. I love how elegant it is; the flower always reminds me of the bouquet and wedding dress to already know how pretty it is. The smell is interesting to me; it’s a myrrh smell but sweeter. Easy care? I don’t know because it still gives me a bit of a hard time, but I would see how it does in the fall then tell you my thoughts. Usually, the color is white and a little bit yellow, but it would turn pink in the more cooling season, and I want to see that!
French Rose
The French rose is famous for how rich the color has in only one rose and how romantic it looks, such as the most famous roses in the world "Pierre de Ronsard." French roses also recognized how long a rose could last if you get enough water and fertilizers during the blooming seasons. I especially love a french rose company called "Meillend International," and somehow, all my french roses are all from them. For beginners, the french rose needs more planning experience. For how long a flower can least need to understand how the fertilizer works, such as the organic fertilizer and liquid fertilizer's immediate effect!
Baby Romantica
A small shrub rose, I love how it always has blooming lots of flowers in one. I always have a good mood seeing its flower because the color is like a burst of sunshine and oranges when you see it. It is a floribunda and miniature rose.
Mango Romantica
A bud sport variety of Baby Romantica. I love how they name it Mango Romantica because the color serious looks like a mango lol. Its a floribunda and miniature rose.
Rouge Pierre de Ronsard (Red Eden)
A classic red color rose. It is a climber, which means you need a bigger space for it. Using the trellis is perfect for climbing roses to double the sprout to sprouting and the flower! I really love its rich red color, the flower's shape, and how the petals formed got my full hearts. It is effortless care rose, highly recommend for the beginner!
Mini Pierre de Ronsard (Mini Eden)
There are two kinds of this rose, the climber and the shrub. I have a shrub and a shrub grafted on a rootstock as a tree rose. This rose is a younger sister of Pierre de Ronsard, some different from its big sister. The flower is smaller, and it's everblooming. If you plan to get this one, you need more experience and more eyes on this rose!
Japanese Rose
If you want to find some unique color or smell shrub style rose for your balcony, Japanese rose is your choice. I highly recommend a company called "Rosa Orienlis," their rose is effortless to care and strong. I have two from them, and they are easy to care for, even in the hot/rainy weather.
Masaro
The most effortless care rose I have never seen! Super strong grapefruits scent and balcony friendly. I especially love the leaves of it. It is gleaming and thick. Funny is it's actually British blood rose but released in Japan. One of the best varieties for beginners!
Lilas
Rosa Orienlis's rose. My first blue/ purple rose. Most of the blue rose is super hard to take care is because the breeder was focusing more on the color instead of the plant itself. The pure blue color rose is still unexciting things, so that's explained why the breeder was focusing on the color than the plant itself. But Lilas is different from others; it is easy to care and sprouting like crazy in sweltering weather.
My Rose
Rosa Orienlis's rose. I still need more time with it to be able to give you a review. They said it's effortless care grew in RosaOrienlis's website, and yes, it is. Still, I noticed that it is slow to see its sprouts, and it tends to have flowers when its stems only have 2 to 4 cm; this situation means it is hard to make it a bigger shrub. Maybe it's too hot now. I would give you an update as well.
Mon Cœur
Rosa Orienlis’s rose. My newest rose on my balcony. I haven’t seen any significant things yet, but I have a strong feeling that it’s a fast grower; I already see many sprouts starting to sprouting, and the website says it’s a fast grower as well. I love how the name describes it so well. The word “Mon Cœur” is from French, which means “my heart” but can also mean “my love.” Some romantic people would say, “Je t’aime de mon cour” “means “I love you from the bottom of my heart,” so that describes why they called the name. The color is just like its name, a bright pink and white edge, really romantic and beautiful.
Ariadne
Rosa Orienlis's rose. My newest rose on my balcony. It's a shrub/climber, suits for the flat trellis and obelisks. I don't have any reviews of it yet, but the website says it grows pretty fast and suits beginners. The fragrance is a tea smelling with a bit of honey.
German Rose
Pompon Veranda
It needs a lot of direct sunlight to be able to grow faster. It would be best if you had a lot of passion for this rose because it grows pretty slow. Still, the leaves are super thick, which's means that it's not going to get any disease, super strong, and the flowers can last at least for almost three weeks or longer. Balcony friendly, easy-care but need a to of fertilizer to be able to grow. It is an iron man.
